Al grew up south of the Mason Dixon and has been playing bluegrass since his childhood. At 13 years old, he was already winning awards for his banjo playing.
Al soon moved on to the guitar, and learned to play in the style of Doc Watson and Tony Rice, who were his major influences.
Several years ago, Al took up the fiddle. He was influenced by Kenny Baker and Curley Ray Cline.
Al’s favorite groups are Jimmy Martin, Ralph Stanley, Don Reno and Red Smiley.
Al currently plays banjo, guitar, and fiddle with the Just Passin’ Thru band and banjo with the Cedar Ridge band.
