Brenda Brill Vitek
upright bass, vocals
Nicknamed “Basslady” by her singing partner, Brenda loves playing the upright bass and aspires to one day be able to do a triple-slap! Vocally, she has a passion for finding the sweet spots in harmony. She started studying music as a youngster in the 2nd grade and played piano, flute, saxophone, and bassoon through her school years. Her vocal work began in middle-school and included several choral groups over the years, including NY AreaAllState.
Brenda’s father, fondly remembered by most folks as “the Goat”, introduced her to bluegrass in 1996 at the Basin Bluegrass Festival in Brandon, VT. It was their first bluegrass festival and it was instant love from the first song! Brenda has attended festivals every year since.
Brenda says she finds true joy in the music and real kinship in the bluegrass community she affectionately calls her second family. She plays rhythm guitar and upright bass and is working on getting comfortable to sing some leads!
At jam sessions and pickin’ circles, you’ll often hear Brenda pleading for “one more song”!
