Rocky grew up in a family of musicians where fiddle tunes, old country and bluegrass music filled the air. At age 16, he flat-picked guitar with his father, Pete Richardson, in a band called the High Peaks Boys, formed by Fred Warner. By the late 70’s he was backing up the Adirondack fiddling hero Donnie Perkins. Throughout the years he spent time raising a family but set in with various bands, always finding music and keeping his passion of bluegrass alive. In 2011 he met his sweetheart, Liliane Jutras, and realized a life-long dream of forming a duet, Rock N Lil, playing guitar, mandolin, and finding a new instrument to explore – the square-neck resophonic guitar, aka, dobro.
Given Rocky’s talent as a flat-picker, he found inspiration and encouragement from the recordings of Tut Taylor and Corey Lee McQuade, applying the skills of guitar playing to dobro playing. With his unique style, affection and dedication of dobro playing, he is excited to bring this sound to the band.
